Private Practice
The APA Private Practice Division (PPD) has been serving the unique needs of private practitioners since 1989. Whether you are a seasoned private practice practitioner, student, or contemplating a transition, the PPD is dedicated to supporting your success. We offer PPD members access to valuable networking opportunities, business resources, current information on private practice planning, and technical support.

Elections Are Coming
Members will soon be receiving a ballot for the election of new PPD officers for 2024-25. Please review the bios and position statements for each candidate and be sure to vote.
Results will be announced at our annual meeting on September 22, 2023 @ 3:00 PM ET.
New Communications Committee Opportunity
Last year, PPD appointed a Communications Chair to lead our efforts to not only keep open lines of communication between the Board and its members, but to create more opportunities for member-to-member information sharing that strengthens our community and builds our membership.
Over the last year, we have defined a communication strategy and framed out plans for a new website. We are now seeking two members to join us to put our plan into action and ensure that the PPD's website, Group.io networking platform, and Social Media posts provide an engaging experience for the membership.
Anyone interested should contact Wendy Talio.
About the Private Practice Division
Vision
We envision a planning landscape where private practitioners are valued contributors to planning profession, recognized for the value they add to the communities they serve, and for the services they provide to public agencies.
Mission
Provide the forum, network, and resources necessary to create, grow, and sustain a successful and satisfying career as a private practice practitioner.
Strategy
To accomplish the mission, we work both to strengthen the membership and to advocate for the private planning profession. Strategies we employ include:
- Networking events and discussion forums that facilitate not only member-to-member connections but interactions with other APA divisions
- Developing and distributing information and tools such as the Private Practice Handbook, which support a successful practice
- Educational sessions in a range of formats that encourage the exchange of ideas and information with other practitioners
- Opportunities to promote the private sector practice, build relationships, and gain exposure and visibility within PPD and APA
