Six big ideas
GSO2040, Greensboro, North Carolina's comprehensive plan, was shaped by extensive public input. The living document is designed to adapt to the community's changing needs. Quarterly implementation updates ensure the community remains well-informed on the plan's progress. GSO2040 Comprehensive Plan is the recipient of the 2022 Daniel Burnham Award for a Comprehensive Plan, recognizing efforts to help advance communities toward a safer, stronger, and more equitable future. |

Reconnecting neighborhoods
This community-guided planning process will connect 23 neighborhoods and five cities when Detroit's Joe Louis Greenway is complete. The Framework Plan prioritizes the community's goals while celebrating Detroit's vibrant mix of cultures. Increasing resilience
An action plan to reduce Maine's carbon emissions, produce energy from renewable sources, and protect natural resources are the foundation of Maine Won't Wait — A Four Year Action Plan for Climate Change. With goals of protecting the state's character and creating transformational economic opportunities, the plan outlines steps to combat climate change. Maine Won't Wait is recipient of the 2022 Resilience & Sustainability Award, recognizing how planning helps prepare communities for the future. |

Reuse
New life for historic spaces
A participatory planning process helped community members heal and reunite following the disposition of surplus school sites, and identified new uses for many historic community spaces. Technical site assessments combined with community input transformed more than 30 closed sites into valuable neighborhood assets. The Kansas City Public Schools Repurposing Initiative is recipient of the 2022 Planning Excellence Award, recognizing how planning is essential to addressing desires, needs, and challenges within a community. |
