Food Systems

This local food assessment commissioned by the Salt Lake City city council and mayor's office examines indicators and local initiatives in the areas of community and health, production, distribution, consumption, food security, and food waste. The final chapter lays out recommendations along with detailed action steps for moving towards a more sustainable food system in nine areas: sustainable urban agriculture and food planning practices; food system economic strategy and implementation plan; regional food hub and food transportation network; local food procurement; building a local food brand; improving fresh and healthy food access;  promoting and educating residents about local food; strengthening the city's food policy task force; and reducing food waste.
