Food Systems

This food action plan, developed by the county's Food Policy Council with the support of county government, is focused around five principles: farmers and food producers, the economy, health, land and water, and the community. The plan defines the many components of a healthy food system and contrasts them with unhealthy food system characteristics. It describes the history and current state of farming and food production in the county, the food-based economy, the connections between food and health, the importance of protecting soil and water, and the importance of community connections, and offers detailed lists of goals and actions for each of the five principles.
