Creative Placemaking

This report provides examples of creative placemaking and recommends approaches to support community-led creative placemaking efforts. Examples of creative placemaking projects in San Diego include intersection murals, gathering places, and community plazas, some of which have faced challenges related to permitting, accessibility and funding. It provides examples from Los Angeles and San Francisco, where streamlining projects have led to more community-led creative placemaking. It provides recommendations based on actions taken by other cities, including making permitting processes more accessible, piloting projects, creating partnerships with artists, and engaging arts organizations to encourage community engagement.
