Before training as a planner, this Chicago-based writer's background was in history — and if there's one thing history teaches us, he says, it's to learn from the challenges presented to us. "Now is the time to examine professional practices and ask what changes can be made to improve and enhance the field."

For this planner, a walk in her New Orleans neighborhood is nothing new, but the coronavirus has changed the surroundings. "This is a stressful time. We know the businesses and residents in our communities need help, but the tools aren't all there yet," she says. "Getting out for a walk always gives me perspective about how I can be of service — and it restores my spirit by reminding me of how much I love my city."
