  • Option 1: You have to meet half the CM credit required (16 CM credits) including 1.5 credits each of ethics and law.
  • Option 2: If you are a Life Member who meets the Retired Member criteria, then you qualify for a full exemption from CM requirements.

Unemployed/In Transition APA Membership Dues

You may qualify for Unemployed/In Transition dues for one year of reduced dues for every three years of continuous APA membership, up to five years (15 years of membership). You must request the reduced rate annually, and approval is subject to APA review. With approval of the Unemployed/In Transition dues, you receive reduced APA, AICP, and chapter dues and an Unemployed/In Transition CM exemption (see below).

Unemployed/In transition CM Exemption

You may waive a portion of your Certification Maintenance requirements during any period of unemployment with the Unemployed/In Transition CM exemption. With the Unemployed/In Transition CM exemption, you must average four CM credits for each quarter you are employed during the reporting period and must report these credits by the end of your two-year CM reporting period, including 1.5 credits each of ethics and law.

Foreign Practice CM Exemption

If you are practicing outside of the U.S., you can apply for an active Foreign Practice CM exemption and submit a Personal Professional Development Plan along with the application in lieu of taking registered CM courses for each reporting period.

Inactive CM Exemptions

You have the option to apply for an Inactive CM exemption for up to four years. Under this status, your AICP membership will be inactivated, and the AICP credential cannot be used during this period. This exemption requires you to keep your APA and chapter memberships active. This exemption includes Parental leave, Military Service leave, Health Care leave, Foreign Residency, and Other.

APA's Auto-Renewal Program

APA's Auto-Renewal Program offers you the flexibility of paying your APA, AICP, and chapter dues in monthly, quarterly, or annual installments.
