National Planning Awards

APA's National Planning Awards recognizes outstanding efforts in planning and planning leadership. All of the recipients demonstrate exemplary commitment to planning healthy, sustainable, and inclusive communities for all, while the projects and the planners behind them illustrate how planning connects us.

AICP College of Fellows

Induction to the AICP College of Fellows is the highest honor the American Institute of Certified Planners bestows upon a member. Fellows of AICP are nominated and selected by their peers to recognize and honor their outstanding contributions as a professional planner.

APA recognizes individual Chapters and Divisions for their contributions to the. Awards in six categories recognize outstanding division efforts. CPC recognizes individual chapters and chapter presidents.

Presidential Awards

Both the APA Presidents Award and the AICP Presidents award are presented to individuals who have demonstrated a continued commitment to creating great communities for all in the planning profession.

JAPA Awards

The editorial board of the Journal of the American Planning Association annually celebrates outstanding published work with the JAPA Article of the Year Award, and with the newly created Best JAPA Article by an Early Career Scholar Award.

Comprehensive Plan Standards

Through the Sustaining Places Initiative, APA defined a set of principles to guide comprehensive plans for sustaining places, and developed these guiding principles into a set of recommended planning practices to serve as a resource for the preparation of local comprehensive plans.
