AICP Fellows Nominations

The AICP College of Fellows nomination process is biennial. Nominations are due during odd-numbered years.

How to Nominate

Nominations must be submitted in one of three ways*

  1. By the Chapter President
  2. By the Division chair
  3. By 10 individual AICP members

Chapter presidents and Division chairs receive lists of all AICP members eligible for nomination.

Assembling a nomination package that captures an exemplary planner's career requires considerable time and attention to detail. Begin nominations well ahead of time.

FAICP Nomination Guidelines

Following recommendations from the 2024 FAICP Selection Committee and the College of Fellows Committee, the Fellows Nomination Guidelines and Fellows Nomination Toolkit have been updated. These changes are designed to enhance transparency and support APA's Prioritize Equity strategic initiative.

Please take the time to thoroughly review and follow the instructions for Fellow nominations. These materials are regularly updated to offer guidance and valuable insights for nominees. These materials are routinely updated to provide accurate guidance and valuable insights for nominees. The FAICP Selection Committee, appointed by the College of Fellows Committee, is committed to a transparent and equitable evaluation process by consistently applying the Fellows Guidelines throughout their review.

Supporting Nominees Through Enhanced Resources

The College of Fellows and the FAICP Selection Committee are committed to encouraging and supporting all nominees by continually enhancing the resources available. The committee has not set a maximum number or specific types of nominations for approval in each cycle. The resources in the Fellows Toolkit are designed to help potential nominees understand the qualifications and process for becoming a Fellow and to support the submission of strong nomination packages. For those preparing nominations for the 2026 Class of Fellows, a thorough review of the guidelines, nomination guide, and toolkit is essential.

Enhanced Transparency

  • Fellows Selection Committee Overview: A comprehensive overview of the FAICP Selection Committee's composition, along with the detailed review process for each nomination package, is available in the Fellows Toolkit.
  • Fellows Nomination Review Worksheet: Each FAICP Selection Committee member thoroughly evaluates every nomination package using the Fellows Nomination Review worksheet, which aids in structured notetaking and facilitates meaningful group discussions during committee meetings. This worksheet is available in the updated Fellows Toolkit to assist nominees with preparing their submissions.
  • Introduction of a Post-Cycle Webinar (New for 2024): In 2024, the College of Fellows Committee and APA introduced a post-cycle webinar aimed at sharing insights and gathering feedback from nominees and nominators of the 2024 nomination cycle. The webinar featured members of the Committee as well as former members of prior FAICP Selection Committees. Going forward, this webinar will be a standard part of the post-nomination process, offering an opportunity to enhance the experience and outcomes for future cycles.

Administrative improvements

  • APA Staff Review Period: To ensure that all nominations are complete and accurate, nominees may submit their nominations by July 11, 2025, for an opportunity to correct limited errors, including incomplete submissions, missing signatures, and document page overages. Nominees can also update their submissions by removing photos as needed. All nomination packages and resubmissions are due by July 31, 2025.

Nomination Guidelines Updates

  • Introducing the "Nominee's Story": Storytelling is a powerful tool for presenting the nominee's contributions engagingly and persuasively, ensuring their accomplishments receive clear recognition. To reflect this approach, the 'Annotated Resume' has been renamed the 'Nominee's Story.' A step-by-step worksheet, complete with samples is available in the Fellows Toolkit to guide users in revising a traditional resume into the Nominee's Story format. This resource includes examples of nominees who have effectively crafted their achievements into compelling narratives, clearly demonstrating how they meet the primary criteria for nomination.
  • Resources to Support the Updated Fellows Guidelines: The updated Fellows Guidelines and Fellows Toolkit provide new samples and tools to help nominees align their nomination packages with the Primary Criteria. These resources include "Tips for Transforming a Resume into the Nominee's Story," along with other practical tools aimed at assisting nominees in crafting compelling and criteria-focused submissions.
