Gondolas as Transit

While gondolas are used in a variety of capacities globally, interest in integrating them into public transit systems is starting to grow in the U.S. Mayra Perez Diaz/Getty Images.
About This Trend
In the absence of urban air mobility (UAM) progress, gondolas may become a more feasible form of air travel. With the success of this mode in many Latin American cities (Caracas, Bogotá, MedellĂn, Mexico City, and others), interest in gondolas as public transit is growing both in the U.S. and internationally.
Despite their ability to surpass congestion on the ground, gondolas do have limitations, and localities will need to weigh their benefits relative to more traditional public transportation methods.
