The Municipal Planner-I

  • Assist the public and other departments by researching information, contracts, ordinances and other resources to provide appropriate information.
  • Review and evaluate site plans.
  • Interpret ordinance information, maps, site plans and answer questions.
  • Provide legal descriptions of property. Assign and change addresses.
  • Assist in the analysis and proposal of plans, programs and projects. Involves, but are not limited to:
    • Gather and analyze data.
    • Research land ownership, transportation plans, urban growth, ordinances and other data.
    • Meet with architects, engineers, developers and planners about building projects and site plans.
    • Develop supporting materials for presentations.
    • Assist in identifying significant issues and prepare recommendations.
    • Prepare maps, files, contracts and amendments, design guidelines, address assignments and various other planning documents.
  • Represent the department and provide technical support, information and guidance on planning issues.
  • Respond to requests for information on ordinances, codes, policies, plans and procedures.
  • Provide interpretation of zoning and subdivision requirements, transportation planning documents, land development applications, land use documents and other planning documents.
  • Prepare comprehensive documents on planning issues, data analysis, special reports and recommendations.
  • Attend board and committee meetings and other meetings in support of the department.

The Municipal Planner-II

  • Serves as a project coordinator between developers and the City, ensuring that proposals are in compliance with ordinances; evaluates requests for rezoning, plan amendments, variances, and plats, providing recommendations and participating in meetings.
    • Works directly with architects, developers, contractors, attorneys, engineers and general public in bringing all aspects of subdivision's approval to fruition.
    • Confers with and advises architects, builders, attorneys, contractors, engineers, and the general public regarding City development policies and standards.
    • Compiles information and assists in the preparation of site plans for private development and civic buildings; reviews commercial, industrial and residential development plans for code compliance; processes permit applications.
  • Participates in special projects involving the preparation of studies, compiling information related to public facilities, area plans, planning notices, current and advance planning.
    • Researches, analyzes and interprets social, economic, population and land use data and trends; prepares written reports on various planning matters and elements of the general plan.
    • Compiles information, makes recommendations and prepares planning reports on special studies pertaining to land use and community development problems.
    • Researches and prepares reports and recommendations for a variety of Boards, Committees, and Councils; makes public presentations and recommendations on various aspects of the planning program.
    • Researches, verifies, updates and drafts ordinances for review.
    • Designs and develops the City's System, Area and Specific Area, and Master plans in accordance with local and state rules and regulations.
    • Assists in implementing the City's Comprehensive Plan.
  • Provides assistance to property owners, developers, staff and elected officials and represents the City by responding to inquiries; providing information and guidance; and attending and participating in meetings, conferences and committees.
  • Reports performance and monthly status of City subdivision activity to the Office of the City Manager and the Planning and Zoning Commission.
  • Researches, compiles and presents statistical, land use and demographic data for work sessions, public meetings and public hearings, to include maps, drawings and displays.
  • Performs systems analysis and develops complex projects that utilize the City's Geographical Information System (GIS); manages the GIS data system.
