This position performs responsible professional and technical work related to planning functions and related projects for transit services in the City of Charlottesville. Work is performed under general supervision and reports to the Transportation Planning Manager.
The preferred hiring range for this position is between $59,654.40 - $73,340.80 Annually. This is a full-time, exempt, position which provides excellent benefits including 13 paid holidays + 1 floating holiday, paid vacation and sick leave, health insurance options with employer contribution, employer-paid life insurance, City's retirement options, gym membership reimbursement, and continuing education/training opportunities.

- The City of Charlottesville manages its own retirement system and does not participate in VRS, however the City has a Portability Agreement with VRS and there are certain provisions that must be met. Education and Experience: Candidates may qualify by demonstrating the required knowledge and skills outlined for the job through experience(s) other than formal education.
- Bachelor's degree in urban planning, transportation planning, architecture, engineering, or a related field AND previous experience in planning, transportation planning, transportation engineering or a closely related area.
OR
- Associate degree in urban planning, transportation planning, architecture, engineering, or a related field AND 2 years of experience in planning, transportation planning, transportation engineering or a closely related area.
OR
- High School diploma or GED AND 4 years of experience in planning, transportation planning, transportation engineering or a closely related area.
OR
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered in lieu of the specific requirements listed above.
Preferred:
- Master's degree in a related field.
- Previous experience in public transportation.
