Essential Functions:

- Contacts property owners and tenants in person, via telephone, and in writing to investigate pro-active and complaint-driven field inspection to ensure compliance with enforcement of Zoning Ordinance
- Issues and explains zoning violations, indicates corrective actions required
- Reviews and issues zoning permits and licenses including signs, accessory structures, and food trucks
- Approves and maintains licensing of short-term rental/Homestay program
- Conducts site inspections for compliance with requirements such as parking and landscaping standards
- Participates in meetings and project discussions
- Supports and may act as back-up for--Code Inspector and Property Maintenance Official positions
- Other tasks or areas of enforcement as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to handle code enforcement situations both tactfully and impartially
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of zoning and zoning enforcement
- Ability to read plans and specifications
- Excellent organizational skills are required
- Ability to multi-task
- Excellent customers service skills
- Ability to work in a team environment
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office products such as Excel and Word
- Knowledge of or ability to learn and become proficient with the Town's permitting software
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- Minimum of one to three years of experience in zoning, inspection, enforcement or a government services related field is required
- Certification as a Zoning Official or Administrator is preferred
Special Requirements:
- Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record
- Zoning Official certification within two years of date of hire
