Join Our Team as the Principal Planner

The Town of Hilton Head Island is seeking a dynamic and experienced Principal Planner to perform advanced professional planning and development review for the Town, ensuring compliance with the Land Management Ordinance and Comprehensive Plan. This position will lead complex project coordination, support boards and commissions, and engages the community through public outreach.

What You Will Do

• Provides day-to-day project leadership by planning and prioritizing tasks;
• Ensures timely processing and completion of development review applications;
• Demonstrates continuous and measurable efforts to improve operations and procedures, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality customer service;
• Interprets and administers provisions of Town's Land Management Ordinance development-type applications
• Leads interdisciplinary project teams on complex planning initiatives,
• Makes decisions, clarifies issues according to the LMO and Comprehensive Plan and answers inquiries;
• Monitors effectiveness of land use policies, ordinances, and planning initiatives;
• Oversees assigned boards, commissions, and committees

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree and six (6) years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
• Valid Driver's license
• American Institute of Certified Planner (AICP) preferred
