JOB DESCRIPTION

This position blends transportation planning and community engagement with a focus on public transit, pedestrian, and bicycle travel. As the Multimodal Manager for the City of Durango, you'll be a leader in making the community more connected, accessible, and safe for all. You'll manage a variety of programs and complex infrastructure projects, work closely with diverse community groups, and make a daily impact on how residents and visitors get around the city.

Essential Job Duties

  • Lead the City's Multimodal Program: Manage all aspects of the bicycle and pedestrian programs, including planning, maintenance, education, and outreach. This includes overseeing specific initiatives like Safe Routes to School and Clean Commute Week.
  • Manage Multimodal Projects: Oversee the planning and implementation of complex multimodal infrastructure projects from prioritization through design.
  • Strengthen Community Connections: Work closely with other City departments, agencies, and community members to improve safety, connectivity, and accessibility. You'll lead large community meetings, give presentations to City Council and other groups, and respond to citizen inquiries.
  • Advance Multimodal Initiatives: Manage the implementation of the Multimodal Transportation Plan and lead its five-year updates. You'll also research and pursue funding sources and help integrate multimodal principles into other city master plans.
  • Oversee Division Staff and Budgets: Directly manage the Multimodal Specialist and Multimodal Coordinator positions. You'll also handle complex operating and capital budgets, ensuring projects stay on track and within financial guidelines.
  • Communicate and Educate: Develop and oversee public education and marketing materials, manage the division's website and social media, and give presentations to a variety of audiences.

Minimum Qualifications

You Have:

  • Bachelor's degree with coursework in transportation planning, urban planning, engineering, public administration, or a related field.
  • Three years of experience in transportation or urban planning, engineering, public administration, or municipal government, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A valid state driver's license.

  • Are comfortable speaking in public, leading meetings, responding to sensitive citizen inquiries, and presenting to elected officials.
  • Can manage and mentor staff while coordinating complex programs and projects.
  • Bring creativity, initiative, and strong organizational skills to plan, execute, and evaluate multimodal initiatives.
