JOB DESCRIPTION

We are looking to support our growing building code expertise by hiring a Building Code Principal for the Climate Mitigation and Resiliency Planning (CMRP) team. This position could be part or full-time depending on applicants availability.

A Principal's time will generally be split as follows:

  • 75-85% Project Work
  • 5-10% Business Development
  • 10-15% Team Meetings, Overhead

Skills Requirements

  • Robust experience with building energy code or energy policy development, advancement, or implementation including specifically working with the International Energy Conservation Code, ASHRAE standard 90.1, and other relevant standards.
  • Experience supporting local or state governments in developing, adopting, or implementing building energy codes, building energy policies, or programs related to building energy efficiency and electrification, including experience developing memos for leadership boards or councils, presentations, and research findings as needed.
  • Experience and in-depth understanding of beneficial electrification, building energy codes, and building energy policies such as benchmarking, BPS, or other policies that target existing building efficiency and electrification.
  • Experience facilitating diverse groups including community members, government staff, industry groups, and other key partners, developing meeting facilitation plans, and guiding groups to achieve outcomes.
  • Experience developing research papers, informational memos, powerpoint presentations, and/or other written or visual deliverables that convey the results or key concepts of a project research task, or policy.
  • Demonstrated skill at project and task management including the ability to manage clients, budgets, tasks and timelines to deliver high quality outcomes.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to synthesize complex information, draw conclusions, and communicate ideas clearly.
  • Demonstrate a strategic and forward-thinking approach to business management.
  • Proficiency in virtual facilitation platforms including Zoom, GoogleMeets, and Team.
  • Proficient in the Google and Microsoft Suite of tools.

Education & Experience requirements

  • Highschool + 20-30 years of relevant experience OR
  • Bachelors + 15-25 years of relevant experience OR
  • Masters + 10-20 years of relevant experience.
  • AND, Building code and building policy expertise.

Additional skills of interest

  • Building energy and cost modeling for commercial or residential buildings.
  • Experience with other codes that support resiliency and energy work including the International Mechanical Code, International Plumbing Code, International Building Code, International Residential Code, and the National Electric Code.
  • Experience and in-depth understanding of the Colorado context for beneficial electrification, Colorado's Model Energy Codes, Colorado's Building Performance Standards, the City of Boulder's Energy Code, or Denver's Energy Code or Building Performance Standard, and CO community-specific code approaches is desired.
  • Experience working in the intersection of building energy codes, land use codes and policies, and zoning codes and policies to advance building efficiency or electrification.
  • Experience in developing and/or executing training on building energy codes and policies for technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience with building energy code or policy enforcement and implementation.
  • Familiarity with the legal landscape of building energy codes and policies.
  • Proficiency in virtual facilitation tools including Mentimeter, MIRO, and others.
