Located approximately an hour drive from Pittsburgh the Morgantown Monongalia Metropolitan Planning Organization (MMMPO) is seeking a new Executive Director upon the retirement of the incumbent after 16 years. Currently the MPO Executive Director supervises 2 staff members. The MPO Director plays a critical role in shaping the future of multimodal transportation in the region, ensuring that it is safe, efficient, and sustainable. The Executive Director reports directly to the MMMPO Policy Board which consists of representatives of the area's communities including Monongalia County, the City of Morgantown, West Virginia University, the Monongalia County Board of Education and the towns of Granville, Westover and Star City as well as other important stakeholders including Mountain Line Transit and the Morgantown Area Partnership. Following is a list of responsibilities and qualifications expected of the Executive Director.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Developing and maintaining the Metropolitan Transportation Plan (MTP) and the Transportation Improvement Program
- Overseeing the preparation of intersection, subarea and corridor studies detailing the need for projects identified in the MTP.
- Managing and directing MPO Staff
- Consultant Management
- Preparing and presenting staff reports and recommendations at public meetings.
- Maintaining strong relationships with various transportation agencies and stakeholders including the West Virginia Department of Transportation, the Federal Highway and Federal Transit Administrations.
- Development of the Unified Planning Work Program (UPWP).
- Managing the MPO's budget and financial resources.
- Ensuring public participation in the transportation planning process.
- Representing the MPO in public forums and engaging with the media.
- Staying abreast of new trends and innovations in transportation planning.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Strong leadership and management skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proven ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
- In-depth knowledge of transportation planning principles and practices.
- Familiarity with relevant federal and state transportation legislation and regulations.
- Ability to analyze complex transportation issues and develop creative solutions.
- Experience in grant writing and management.
- Preferred education Bachelor's degree in Planning, Public Administration, Engineering or a related field with five or more years of related experience or a Master's degree with three or more years of related experience.
