JOB DESCRIPTION

General:

Internships appointments at LCPC afford students of planning, GIS, and/or related fields and other qualified individuals an opportunity to gain training and actual work experience in service to the Commission. Appointments are for a definite period of time, not to exceed 12 months.

Internships appointments work under the supervision of senior staff of the Commission to assist in the collection of field data, the development of planning studies, local and regional plans, ordinances and regulations, and other similar projects.

Responsibilities:

Duties will include extensive field work, including road and culvert inventories, and deploying of speed study equipment. Additional duties may include organization and analysis of data, document review and summarization, document preparation, presentation of studies and plans, project development in coordination with senior staff. Some internship appointments may include GIS work.

Qualifications and Knowledge:

The intern candidate must be a U.S. citizen, or be lawfully authorized to work in the U.S. and have their own means of transportation.

This position requires at least two years higher education in an Associate or Bachelor degree program in planning, environmental policy, or a closely related field.  A basic understanding of planning principles and/or specific knowledge relating to a pertinent specialty, such as the environment, affordable housing, transportation, or land use would be helpful.

This position requires the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships, competency with desktop computer applications including word processing, spreadsheets, and databases. This position may require occasional meetings and public hearings under the guidance of senior staff. The candidate must be flexible in their scheduling, be able to work independently with little supervision, while being able to work as part of a team.
