JOB DESCRIPTION

Assistant Planner is an entry-level position that provides professional and technical planning functions, including both current planning (development reviews) and long-range planning. The Assistant Planner must understand and apply adopted plans and regulations in a variety of circumstances including answering questions concerning land use regulations, reviewing land use applications, and drafting updates to planning documents and regulations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Ensures compliance with state and local laws and regulation affecting planning, land subdivision, and zoning.
• Apply planning principles and practices to current and long-range planning projects.
• Some administrative tasks may be assigned which may include taking minutes at meetings, preparing meeting packets, and a variety of day-to-day office tasks.
• Work closely with developers by providing guidance on land use applications and regulatory requirements.
• Prepare and communicate a variety of information (verbal and written) to a variety of boards, commissions, and the public.
• Draft and communicate plan and regulation amendments.
• Required to attend meetings outside of normal working hours.
• Any other duties as assigned.

Qualifications/Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in planning, public administration, or a closely related field of study (required).
• Land use planning or closely related experience is preferred.
• Possess or be able to obtain a Wyoming Driver's License and have a good driving record.
• Working knowledge of basic computer software and ArcGIS applications.
