Douglas County is now accepting applications for a full-time Building Inspector within the Zoning and Codes Dept. This position is responsible for inspection and enforcement of buildings under construction or alteration to determine compliance with adopted building and related codes, county ordinances, and regulations. Additional responsibilities for Building Inspector II and III include working directly with stakeholders regarding compliance issues, reviewing project plans, and preparing technical materials including correspondence, reports, analyses, and diagrams.
Ideal candidates will be skilled at customer service, communication, and problem-solving. Knowledge of construction principles, materials, and general practices, and basic Zoning regulations is essential. Applicants must have a valid driver's license, pass a background check, and demonstrate the ability to develop and maintain working relationships with diverse coworkers, community members, and customers.
Required Education and Experience:
- Building Inspector I: Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university and two years of construction trades related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must acquire ICC Building Inspector B1 certification within six months of employment. Must acquire additional ICC certifications for M1, E1, P1 residential within one year of hire date.
- Building Inspector II: Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university and two years of construction trades related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Plus, ICC certified for B1, M1, E1, P1 residential certifications.
- Building Inspector III: Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university and two years of construction trades related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Plus, ICC certified for B1, M1, E1, P1 residential certifications and ICC Commercial certification(s).

- Building Inspector I: $27.34 - $39.63/hr
- Building Inspector II: $29.26 - $42.43/hr
- Building Inspector III: $31.30 - $45.39/hr
