JOB DESCRIPTION

ABOUT THE POSITION

Clark County Comprehensive Planning is seeking qualified candidates to apply for the Director of Comprehensive Planning. This executive leader will plan, organize, and administer a comprehensive countywide planning program that delivers both current and long-range planning services to promote a vibrant economy, protect neighborhoods from incompatible development, reduce environmental impacts, and conserve natural resources. This position manages a broad, consolidated program of advanced and specialized planning and zoning functions. The successful candidate will work closely with elected and appointed officials, advisory boards, community stakeholders, and County leadership to develop policy and implement action plans that serve all residents.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education: Bachelor's Degree in City, Regional, Transportation or Urban Planning, or a closely related field.

Experience: Six (6) years of full-time management experience in the urban planning field.

Citizenship: Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Please note, Clark County does not provide H1B visa sponsorships or transfers for any employment positions.

Background Investigation: Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background investigation. Periodically after employment background investigations may be conducted.

Pre-Employment Drug Testing: Employment is contingent upon the results of a pre-employment drug examination.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

  • Directs department operations, including setting goals, policies, procedures, and managing the budget.
  • Plans, organizes, and evaluates the work of professional, technical, and support staff through subordinate managers, including staff selection, development, and performance management.
  • Oversees program effectiveness, resource allocation, and continuous improvement of services, policies, and procedures.
  • Collaborates with the Board of Commissioners, Planning Commission, advisory groups, and other departments to develop policies, resolve issues, and coordinate County-wide initiatives.
  • Represents the department in public, legislative, and regulatory settings; monitors legal and regulatory changes, and directs policy updates, reports, and strategic planning efforts.
