JOB DESCRIPTION

Washoe County, Nevada is hiring for a Senior Planner in its long-range planning program.

Washoe County is home to over 6,600 sprawling square miles, bordering both California and Oregon with over a half a million residents who call our region home. Washoe County's recreation and outdoors experiences are second to none with 49 beautiful parks, 161 miles of trails, and more than 10,000 acres of open space. Washoe County's seat is located in Reno, Nevada.

Position Information

Under supervision, the Senior Planner oversees the more complex development projects, long-range and current planning projects, master plan and development code amendments, policy/ordinance development and project administration; and performs related work as required.

This is an Open Competitive/Countywide Promotional recruitment being conducted to fill a current full-time vacancy in the Community Services Department. The list established from this recruitment may be used to fill future vacancies as they occur.

Minimum Qualifications

Three years of full-time professional planning experience AND a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in planning, environmental sciences, geography, economics, public administration, or a closely related field; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

License Or Certificate

A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and must be maintained for continued employment in this classification.

The Ideal Candidate Will

• Have an active certification through the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP)
• Have extensive land use planning experience in both current and long-range disciplines, including ordinance development
• Have strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to tactfully and effectively navigate and facilitate complex and difficult scenarios
• Have strong critical thinking skills, including the ability to identify and evaluate multiple possible options for implementing policy direction
• Have demonstrated data analysis and digital technology skills, including experience communicating complex information through creative digital and visual means
• Have proven experience assessing and improving processes, including finding creative solutions to problems
• Have the ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing during challenging situations
• Have a strong desire to serve the Washoe County community
• Have excellent organizational skills
