JOB DESCRIPTION

Brandstetter Carroll Inc. (BCI) is seeking a Planner to join our parks and recreation planning team onsite in Lexington, Kentucky. We prepare parks, recreation, aquatics, open space, and trails master plans for cities, counties, and park districts nationwide. While our roots are in Kentucky, we're doing exciting work from Texas to New Jersey and Georgia to Ohio, and our reach grows every year.

You'll work directly with senior staff, taking on the analysis, writing, coordination, and production work that keeps projects and pursuits moving forward. It's an excellent opportunity for someone who wants broad exposure to interesting projects and the chance to grow.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Analyze parks and recreation systems, including level-of-service benchmarking, demographic and trends analysis, and peer-community comparisons
  • Support the planning and facilitation of community engagement, including public workshops, focus groups, stakeholder meetings, and online engagement
  • Analyze and synthesize engagement results into clear findings
  • Review, analyze, and summarize prior studies, plans, and reports
  • Write, format, and produce polished planning documents
  • Create illustrative documents, graphics, maps, and figures for reports and presentations
  • This position is full time and requires occasional evening and weekend work at public meetings
  • This position requires some overnight travel for client meetings and community engagement

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • A Bachelor's or Master's degree in urban, community, and regional planning or other applicable discipline from an accredited college
  • 3-5 of experience in urban, regional, or community planning
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
  • Must maintain a valid driver's license

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • A genuine desire to grow in planning, community engagement, and data analysis
  • Excellent communication, research, and analytical skills, with sharp attention to detail
  • Proficient with Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Graphic design and data visualization skills in InDesign, Photoshop, and similar programs is preferred
  • Experience with GIS software (preferably ArcGIS Pro) is preferred
  • Comfortable with AI-assisted and other modern productivity tools for research and analysis
  • Consulting or private-sector experience is preferred
