JOB DESCRIPTION

The post holder will review Development Applications to determine if they comply with the Development and Planning Act and Regulations and present those findings to the Central Planning Authority (CPA).

The Director of Planning or Deputy Director (Current Planning) will assign other duties to ensure that applications and requests are processed in a timely, professional and unbiased manner.

Other responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Review applications and amendment requests, and prepare reports and recommendations for presentation to the Central Planning Authority, to ensure that the CPA is presented with all the relevant data to make informed decisions.
  • Conduct site visits to ensure that: (1) applications correctly depict site conditions; and (2) that construction conforms to approved plans for issuance of Certificates of Occupancy.
  • Answer correspondence from the public in respect of the Act and Regulations, and front desk duties to ensure that high-quality customer service is provided.
  • Meet with applicants/developers regarding applications to ensure that they are familiar with the relevant Regulations and policies/guidelines as they may pertain to their plans.

Qualifications, Knowledge, Experience & Skills:

  • The post requires, at a minimum, a Bachelor's Degree in Land Use Planning, Geography, Architecture or a closely related discipline.
  • Post graduate experience of at least two (2) to three (3) years in small towns/cities with a tourist-oriented economy and/or an environmentally sensitive or any other relevant working environment.
  • The post holder must have an understanding of modern principles of planning - the ability to collect/analyse data; prepare reports; experience in Site Plan Review and ability to work co-operatively and effectively with the public and Government Departments.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to communicate clearly, both orally and in writing.
  • The post holder must have a working knowledge of Planning systems, be knowledgeable in the Microsoft Suite (particularly Excel), Outlook, etc.
  • The post holder must hold a valid driver's licence.

The remuneration package for the successful candidate is offered without deductions.  The Cayman Islands Government provides an additional 12% pension contribution and 100% health insurance coverage for the employee and their dependents.
