COMPENSATION: $2,561.25 - $3,137.53 per pay period (equivalent to $66,592.50 - $81,575.78 annually)
(full range: $2,561.25 - 3,713.81)
POTENTIAL FUTURE COMPENSATION: historically, the City has given a four (4) % base pay increase to employees that are meeting performance expectations at the end of their probationary period.

SCHEDULE: full-time, Mon. - Thurs. 8:00am - 5:30pm, Fri. 8:00am - 12:00pm. Must be flexible to work evenings for meetings as needed.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Review development documents and zoning changes for completeness and compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
- Assist City commissions, City Council, developers, citizens and other city staff or members of the public with understanding the intent and purpose of the any and all applicable ordinances and regulations
- Assist with GIS functions by helping create maps, graphics and other items for all
- Provide recommendations by researching zoning and subdivision ordinances in reference to specific developer and citizen needs, and provide accurate information to the Planning and Zoning Commission, Zoning Board of Adjustment, City Council and any other necessary parties.
- Assist in the administration and updating of the comprehensive plan, zoning ordinance, subdivision ordinance and sign ordinance.
- Prepare findings for the Zoning Board of Adjustment, Planning and Zoning Commission, City Council and other boards and commissions as required.
- Research regulations and policies and assists in their revision when necessary.
- Collect, analyze, and interpret data and summaries in report form.
- Prepare written reports and make presentations.
- Respond in a timely fashion to information from management, officials, and the public.
- Assist developers, engineers, and citizens with various development related laws including, but not limited to, annexation, subdivisions, zoning, and signs.
- Receive and coordinate with plan review consultants on commercial building plans for permitting.
- Assist Building Inspections with residential and miscellaneous submittals for review and permitting.
- Assist with the preparation of annual budget for the Planning & Development division.
- Communicate professionally, promptly, effectively, and courteously with fellow employees and the public in writing, in person, and on the telephone.
- Regular, reliable, and punctual attendance is required.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Evening attendance at meetings as required.
- Respond outside of normally scheduled work hours in response to natural disasters, emergencies, or critical incidents as determined by the City.
- Attend training seminars, conferences, and workshops as required to maintain and enhance professional knowledge and skill.
- Other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:
- Strong working knowledge of principles, practices, procedures, methods, and techniques of International Building Codes, National Electrical Codes, urban planning/design, land development/usage, zoning regulations, surveying, property subdivisions, housing, historic preservation, and economic development.
- Knowledge of pertinent Federal, State, and local laws, codes, ordinances, and regulations.
- Knowledge of computer, MS Office, and GIS software.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to accurately record and maintain records.
- Ability to work well under pressure; prioritize effectively; exhibit appropriate decision making; and perform successfully in a dynamic, changing environment with professionalism, flexibility, and adaptability.
- Ability to utilize strong attention to detail; exhibit effective professional judgement through initiative and creative problem solving; and effective organization skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment, and treat employees, co-workers, and customers with professionalism, courtesy, and respect. Ability to maintain strict confidentiality in all aspects of the job.
- Ability to adhere to all department and City policies and procedures.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in a related filed from an accredited college or university.
- A minimum of one (1) to three (3) years of experience in municipal planning and zoning.
- The following registrations, licenses, or certifications are preferred:
- American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP), or ability to obtain within two (2) years of hire
- Certification/designation from the International Code Council (ICC)

- Building Plans Examiner
- Residential Plans Examiner
- Residential Electrical Inspector
- Must have valid Texas Driver's license and safe driving record.
- Must pass a pre-employment screening, background check and employment eligibility verifications.
