In the city's Compehensive Plan, the Special Resources Section addresses solar access protection (L.1) and sets a goal of assuring adequate solar access for residents. Policies include encouraging new subdivisions and planned unit developments to accommodate passive and active solar energy systems with special attention given to street, lot and building orientation, encouraging new residential development to include solar energy systems, and encouraging existing residential development to add solar energy systems and other energy sources such as wind power (pp. 223-224).
