Design Review

This town's design guidelines were developed to further the implementation of the general plan's community design element and the municipal code; they focus on maintaining the town's semi-rural character, protecting ridgelines and hillside areas, complementing existing landscaping, enhancing scenic corridors, minimizing development impact, thoughtfully designing new single-family neighborhoods and multifamily developments, and promoting commercial centers as community places. The guidelines are used for both administrative design review and design review board review. An appendix includes the Build It Green single-family home checklists, planting lists, and other documents.

Scenic View Protection

This guide includes provisions for enhancing scenic corridors and preserving the town’s semi-rural character. Strategies include incorporating a greenbelt, encouraging upgrades during major projects, and protection of viewsheds in addition to view corridors. It moves forward goals set in the Moraga General Plan to adopt development standards and design guidelines.

Solar Energy

According to the town's design guidelines, solar systems on roofs are encouraged and not subject to Design Review (ID2), and buildings should be placed on the site so as to permit passive solar design (ID4).
