Accessory Dwelling Units

The city’s comprehensive plan includes several policy recommendations that support the development of accessory dwelling units (ADUs). The Land Use element lists ADUs as an appropriate use in multiple land use designations (Policies LU-8, LU-14, and LU-21). The Housing element recommends allowing ADUs as an affordable housing strategy (Policy H-12) and lists ADUs as a potential tool for promoting home ownership, allowing for a variety of housing types, and increasing housing opportunities for lower income households (p. 11).
