This case study and guide summarizes research by the Puget Sound Regional Council for the City of Seattle to collect sample food policy approaches from local comprehensive plans. It provides a examples of local policies that can help the city integrate food systems policies into the land use, transportation, housing, economic development, human development, environment, and connecting jurisdictions and institutions elements of the local comprehensive plan. Part 4.0, Inventory of Policies by Food Policy Category offers sample comprehensive plan policies; Part 5.0, Recommended Strategies, offers sample action steps.

This case study and guide describes research done by the Puget Sound Regional Council to recommend strategies to incorporate food policy into the City of Seattle's comprehensive planning process. The cae study identifies examples of a wide range of food-related topics that could be added or expanded within the land use, transportation, housing, economic development, human development, and environment elements of the comprehensive plan. It also provides examples of policy language used in a variety of plans outside the jurisdiction.
