Food Systems

This food system assessment, prepared by the University of Texas' Lyndon B.  Johnson School of Public Affairs for the City of Austin's Office of Sustainability, was funded through a grant from APA's Plan4Health program to address physical activity and access to healthy foods. The report examines the food system in the North Central Austin/Rundberg area and found challenges in four key areas: access to appropriate information about healthy and affordable food, availabilty of high-quality healthy food, accessibility of food sources, and affordability of healthy food.  It reports on retailers' perspectives and findings from focus groups and one-on-one interviews. The report offers policy recommendations to the city to address the challenges listed above and create an inclusive food system.
