This article offers a detailed case study of changes to land development codes to allow for urban agriculture in Flint, MI. It highlights how the legal framework in Flint became a barrier to the expansion of community gardens and how non-governmental organizations supported a public dialogue about urban agriculture. It also discusses the importance of public input and education in efforts to revise city policies to support urban agricultural activities and outlines the strategies used in Flint.
