Autonomous Vehicles

This staff report contains a draft resolution that was adopted by the city of Palo Alto, CA to create a procedure for allowing autonomous delivery vehicles to operate within the city right-of-way. The one-year pilot program authorizes the public works department to issue encroachment permits to the operators of personal delivery devices. It also includes draft regulations for autonomous robots that address maximum speed, paths of travel, allowable areas of operation, visibility, human monitors or attendants, and reporting.
