The town’s comprehensive plan addresses farmland protection and offers recommendations and tools to help preserve agricultural resources and industry. The Agricultural and Farmland chapter sets four goals, including the preservation of a large, contiguous area of high-quality farmland to ensure continued farming within the town. The plan inventories the town’s agricultural resources and references the town’s agricultural and farmland protection plan recommendations. It reviews issues and opportunities and lists available tools and techniques for retaining farmland and supporting agricultural viability, including conservation easements, zoning and subdivision regulations, tax relief programs, and right-to-farm laws.
