Housing Supply Planning

This guide aims to help communities in the Puget Sound region of Washington update the housing element of their comprehensive plan in compliance with state law. Figure 4 outlines the benefits and challenges of several housing data sources and Figure 5 summarizes where to find relevant demographic data. The guide shares why and how to use different data analysis techniques to understand local housing need and discusses the process of development and evaluating housing policies. Appendix C provides a list of example housing policies and tools from the state’s last housing element update cycle.
