Social Equity

This video contains a conversation between five Black urbanists discussing their experience with anti-Black racism and other issues in the field of urbanism. Each panelist discusses their personal and professional experiences in public spaces, during the COVID-19 pandemic, dealing with intergenerational trauma, and navigating academia and urbanist professions.  The moderator and panelists conclude with action steps for planners and other urbanists; these include anti-racist practices in the workplace, as well as in communities. One key insight for promoting social equity is recognizing that "equity does not mean sacrificing excellence". This encourages planners to respectfully engage with and uplift the expertise of Black urbanists in order to develop authentically inclusive urban spaces.
