This article explores the impact of urban food production on community food security. It analyzes the literature on urban agriculture and urban food systems and the role of city planning, food policy, and civic engagement in encouraging urban agriculture. Some of the findings suggest that the literature gives more emphasis to addressing the benefits of urban agriculture than measuring the impact that urban farms have on improving food security. It also presents recommendations for researchers, policy-makers, and urban farmers to help support spaces that contribute to food justice.
