COURSE DETAILS

While planners regularly perform highly technical analyses within their work, gaining public support and political will to accomplish a major project is often an even greater challenge. No initiative better encapsulates this struggle than congestion pricing.

From its initial conception over 50 years ago, reaching this year's milestone of finally implementing congestion pricing in New York City has been a monumental effort. As some of the foremost proponents of the policy over this time, our panelists will discuss the challenges and opportunities of making congestion pricing a reality in America's largest city.

This session will highlight the safety, equity, environmental, and livability benefits of congestion pricing policies more generally, as well as the challenges and history of implementing the scheme in New York City. Attendees will gain a better understanding of the many roadblocks encountered on the way to implementing congestion pricing in New York City, as well as useful strategies and approaches that can be replicated in other cities.
