During David W. Woods’s planning career, he has worked across the nation to help communities become more beautiful, sustainable, and equitable places. With a focus on long-term planning and collaboration, he achieved near-term success and also laid a foundation for future generations by incorporating what people want and need through use of national best practices. Citizens and fellow planners have called his love for the planning profession contagious. His passion for the profession is evident in his work and his legacy will be to make great places that are open and inclusive and diverse.
Professional Biography
David W. Woods, PhD, FAICP, PP is Principal of GreenWoods Associates (GWA), based in Manhattan and Long Island, and serving public, private, and non-profit clients throughout the New York Metro Region. GWA focuses on best practices, sustainable development, and civic engagement. Throughout his career, David has focused on providing intelligent and responsive leadership that supports other leaders in effecting inclusive sustainable changes to promote livability, equitable community investment, and environmental sustainability for the long-term. Dr. Woods has been elected to the College of Fellows for the American Institute of Certified Planners (FAICP), the highest honor awarded to planners, “in recognition of exemplary leadership, high standards, outstanding achievements, and distinguished contributions of the art and science of planning.” David has taught planning courses at NYU, CUNY/Hunter College, The New School University, Rutgers University, and Fordham University.
