K.K. Gerhart-Fritz has impacted thousands of professional and citizen planners nationally, while assisting over 50 Indiana communities. Her service and leadership are demonstrated by: citizen planner training—over 2,500 citizen planners trained, either in person or by webinar; teaching and mentoring—eleven classes taught at Ball State University, reaching approximately 400 undergraduate and graduate students, and mentoring other professionals from Indiana and beyond, several who have gone on to national recognition; ethics training—presented ethics training sessions to over 1,000 professional planners through APA's National Conferences, national webinars, state and regional conferences, and AICP exam review sessions.
Professional Biography
K.K. Gerhart-Fritz, FAICP has been a professional planner for almost 40 years. A graduate of Ball State University's College of Architecture and Planning, with a Master’s Degree from Indiana University's School of Public and Environmental Affairs, K.K. has practiced planning in many ways and in many different places over the years. She spent 1/3 of her career working as a public sector planner for communities including Dallas , TX and Columbus and Bartholomew County, Indiana. She joined the private sector and also was adjunct faculty for many years at Ball State's College of Architecture and Planning. K.K. has her own planning consulting firm, The Planning Workshop, based in Indianapolis. The Planning Workshop emphasizes the importance of good communication and public education in every planning process, offering training, comprehensive planning and ordinance development. A frequent speaker at Conferences, K.K. is a recognized presenter on planning ethics, and citizen training, including the Planning FUNdamentals Citizen Training. She is a Past-President of APA-IN and former Chair of APA's Private Practice Division. K.K. is married to another FAICP Planner and works hard to resteer their dinner conversations away from "planner talk."
