Climate mobility — the movement of people caused by climate change — requires communities to anticipate the impacts of both population loss and growth, as well as the needs of people who remain in place. Preparing for climate mobility will require addressing existing housing and infrastructure needs, gathering information on local climate impacts and vulnerabilities, and engaging both residents and climate migrants in conversations and decision-making. By helping their communities understand and proactively prepare for the impacts of climate mobility, planners can build local sustainability and resilience.
