The APA Community Engagement Interest Group provides a collaborative space for networking, inspiration, and sharing best practices. We are committed to growing an active community of practice that fosters collaboration, promotes inclusive engagement strategies, and advances equitable participation in decision-making. Through knowledge exchange, professional development, and community building, we strive to enhance community engagement's impact on shaping sustainable, vibrant, and inclusive communities.

Kelly Hickler, AICP, IAP2

Kelly Hickler, AICP, IAP2, is the Founder of Cinnovation Studio and the Community Manager for EngagingCities. She has more than 15 years of community development experience and is passionate about innovative civic education and engagement.

Co-Chair

Chris Haller

With over 20 years of experience in planning and public participation, Chris leads Konveio, a digital engagement platform for plans and policies.

Nora Bland, AICP
Team Member

Nora Bland, AICP

Nora Bland, AICP is passionate about creating places + spaces that are beautiful, equitable, affordable, and sustainable. Nora specializes in community engagement and long-range/comprehensive planning. In addition to being an urbanist, she is also a cyclist and podcast enthusiast.

Nader Afzalan, Ph.D.

Nader Afzalan, Ph.D., is the Founder of The Triangle, a firm dedicated to supporting organizations in enhancing the community impact of their programs and policies as they navigate urban transitions. He is also the Endowed Chair of Social Justice and a Visiting Professor at the University of California, Berkeley, College of Environmental Design.
